Kent Loft Room Addition

The original tall (very tall) ceiling was designed to give an airy, open feeling to the room. In reality this made the room feel narrow and crowded in proportion to the height of the high stark walls. The owners also needed more room to live comfortably so they decided to convert the single, tall room into two rooms, by adding a loft above.  The open feeling of the two-story windows was retained by leaving an opening in front of the windows at the loft level.  The staircase railing, previously enclosed, was opened up by using a Clear View Glass Railing System which also served as a functional divider in front of the windows.

The result of this remodel is just amazing. It transformed one ‘ok’ room into two beautiful living spaces. The addition of the loft contributed approximately 200 SF of inviting, useable space to the home. It now functions as a multipurpose area – as a place to work or play on the computer, file things in the new desk, look out the large windows at the trail and their new deck, and iron clothes on the cleverly built-in ironing center.
