We set records at rampathon.

When it comes to remodeling your home, don't feel as if you have to stick to one theme or material throughout each room. You can mix and match different textures, materials and colors all in the same room. These are the before pictures of a kitchen we recently remodeled.

Martin Before Kitchen
As you can see, the same tile is used on all the countertops. The backsplash is the same throughout the kitchen. Even though the cabinets were all one color, there was no balance of color. The eye is drawn to the one thing different in the room: the white fridge.
Martin After Kitchen
Martin After Kitchen
The cabinets of this remodeled kitchen are all cherry. However, leaving the area under the island open and using textured glass in a couple of the doors gives the cabinetry an interesting look. The stainless steel appliances complement the woodwork and don't vie for attention.
The client chose to have two different types of countertops. The island's countertop is granite and the remainder is Corian. This helps the island stand out, but still feel part of the kitchen.

Slate looking tiles with diamond shaped glass tiles were chosen for the backsplash. Notice that behind the oven is a different kind of tile that gives the impression of soothing, running water.

All of these different touches combine to make this kitchen interesting, beautiful and functional. So go ahead and spice up your remodel by incorporating various textures, materials and colors.

The owners of this fabulous kitchen shared their "Remodeling Experience" with us. Here is what they said...

"From start to finish, Sound Builders made the whole experience very enjoyable, which isn't the word most people would use to describe a remodeling experience. We were new to the process, but ended up being delighted with the entire experience and the end result of a beautiful kitchen. The crew prepped our house carefully, made sure we had all the things we needed to survive without a kitchen for six weeks, and they treated our home and family and pets with care, cleaning up each day. Their "set-your-watch-by-them" start time each day was refreshing to experience because they were so reliable and conscientious. Communication was excellent throughout (cell phones help!) and when asked for input or ideas or design help, both Jay and the crew were helpful and tactful! All in all, an A+ experience. The true test is we would do it again in a heartbeat."

The increase in fuel use and closed houses in the winter, increase the threat of carbon monoxide poisoning. Carbon monoxide (CO) is colorless, odorless and deadly. It is produced by the incomplete burning of liquid, solid and gaseous fuel. In other words, any fuel-burning appliance in your home is a potential CO producer.

The symptoms of CO poisoning are dizziness, headache, shortness of breath, nausea, fatigue or flu-like symptoms.

Here are ways to protect yourself from carbon monoxide:

Use charcoal or camp stoves inside

Run a car in an attached garage

Check and maintain your heating and cooking sources (a yellow flame instead of blue indicates incomplete burning)

Install a high-quality, Underwriters Laboratories-listed carbon monoxide dector

Have a safe and wonderful holiday season!

Happy Thanksgiving & Merry Christmas!
