Experience SBI

"Feeling gratitute and not expressing it, is like wrapping a present and not giving it."

-William Arthur Ward

Thank you for a wonderful and successful 2004! We look forward to extending "The Remodeling Experience" to you in 2005.

There are a variety of reasons to consider remodeling. Done professionally, remodeling will increase the value of your home, reflect your style, fulfill the needs of a growing family, and take care of important life-style needs as we mature.

What is your kitchen style? There are so many options. Which of the following suits your taste and life-style?

Countertops
• Fine woods, such as maple and cherry
• Detailed cabinetry with decorative accents
• Deep, rich color schemes
• Crown moldings with layered decorative moldings
• Corian, Silestone, or granite countertops
• Clean and sleek design
• Simple and free of clutter
• Light background colors with bold accessories
• Frameless cabinets with contemporary hardware or no hardware at all

• Sleek surfaces – stainless steel appliances, brushed or satin faucets
• Hardwood or ceramic tile flooring

• "Furniture-like pieces
• Wood cabinets or glass and wood with rustic finishes
• Valences to match cabinets
• Decorative onlays on cabinets and plate rails inside cabinets
• Rustic touches such as beams, paneling, and exposed brick

• Combination of old and new
• Stainless steel and commercial grade appliances
• Mixture of materials
• "Furniture-like" pieces

Is there more than one chef in the family? Do the kids like to help out in the kitchen? Is the level of the counter or location of appliances bothering your back, or just inconvenient?

Growing families, living in a home they love, often decide on an addition or remodel rather than uprooting the family for a new residence. Consider:

• Add a bathroom
• Add a bedroom
• Finish a basement

• Bump-out to make more space
• Design more work spaces (vegetable sink or island)
• Design an area with a lower counter for little ones to reach

• Add another sink in an existing bathroom
• Convert storage or utility space into a half or three quarter bath

As we age our needs change. Consider the improvements that can prolong the number of years a house can serve its owners.

• Higher counters to avoid stooping
• Install dish drawers
• Put the microwave in a cupboard at chest level

• Raise the counter level
• Install a shower with a seat and a swinging door
• Install grab bars next to the toilet and in the bathtub
• Install a taller toilet

If you or anyone you know is considering a home improvement project, give us a call!

The time for spring cleaning is sneaking up on us. Spring cleaning is an old and necessary ritual brought from England to America by the earliest settlers. During the winter months, dirt and mud were tracked in and everything smelled of fireplace smoke and candles.

Spring time weather allowed people to open their doors and windows to allow fresh air in. They were able to take out carpets to be beaten, washed and hung outside to dry. Floors were scrubbed, metals were polished and spoiled food was cleaned out.

Spring cleaning is a tradition that still endures. The effort and energies devoted to spring cleaning result in an exhilarating sense of freshness, order and renewal.

Let spring be a time when you look at your home with new eyes. Is there a need for more room, does your kitchen need to be updated or rearranged, would a strategically placed skylight lighten up a rather dark area?

Sound Builders would like to help you get out of those winter blues and into the joy of spring.
