We are very excited to have a project in the tour this year. The home we have chosen has undergone different phases of remodel. So there is a variety to see.
Sound Builders has taken the owner's small cramped kitchen and transformed it into an updated, elegant and spacious working and entertaining space. We replaced their old dark deck with a light-filled, spectacular sanctuary, and tore out the driveway and replaced it with gorgeous stamped concrete.
The Remodeled Homes Tour (RHT) is an annual event presented by The Remodelors Council of King and Snohomish Counties.
With space, lighting and elegance in mind, the owners wanted a beautiful, yet functional kitchen.

The ceilings were raised to give a more spacious feeling and bright can lights replaced recessed flourescents.
To maximize the area for food preparation, the peninsula was moved two feet into the already large dining area. A Viking six-burner gas cook top was built into the peninsula, replacing the gas range. This allowed for more preparation space and the addition of a counter wall cabinet with leaded glass doors. To match the cabinets, the hood fan was enclosed in a custom cherry hood and suspended from the ceiling. All the small appliances are hidden behind cherry appliance panels.
Floor tile with deco tiles replaced the vinyl flooring that dated the kitchen. Granite with half-round-edge profile keeps the kitchen simple and makes for easy cleanup.
Taking advantage of the spectacular view of the greenbelt from their kitchen window was a high priority for the owners. We accomplished this by replacing the aluminum windows behind the sink with a Weather Shield wood bay window. The cherry interior was custom finished to match the cabinetry.

The owners' deck also provided a view of the greenbelt. However, the old deck had dark thick balusters creating a wall making it feel dark and small, shutting out the beauty beyond.
Working closely with the owners, we designed their deck to take advantage of the spectacular view while maintaining consistency with the home's Tudor style.
Clear cedar was used to construct the decking and railings. We researched options for the balusters and decided on a product called Deckorators. This included aluminum balusters, beautiful pineapple finnials topping the posts and vineyard centerpieces on the balusters adding a look of elegance. We included the doggie door into the overall design and disguised it in a built-in planter box. As a finishing touch, a motorized 22'x13' awning was installed which allows the clients to enjoy their deck rain or shine.

Large cracks in the driveway were a result of years of poor drainage. The owners originally wanted to replace it with brick pavers, but this would not solve their settling problem.
Stamped concrete provided the solution. Not only is it beautiful and elegant, but we were able to contour it to divert water away from the house and retaining wall.

The remodel provided the owners with a beautiful new kitchen that made it a true entertainment center, a deck that allowed them to take full advantage of their spectacular view year round, regardless of weather conditions, and a driveway that added a new dimension to their entryway, while taking care of both leaks and drainage issues. Our clients are thrilled to share their remodel at the home show. They are delighted in the outcome and reported to us that the remodel was a positive event for them. That's what 'The Remodeling Experience' is all about.

A portion of the proceeds from the tour will benefit the Seattle AIDS Support Group (SASG). SASG offers 40 peer emotional support groups every week for people infected by HIV/AIDS. Groups are lead by trained volunteers. There are groups for people who are HIV+, people with AIDS, and for people who are close to someone with HIV: friends and family.
