Once again, Jay was busy co-chairing the Master Builders Associan's (MBA) sponsored charitable event, Rampathon!
Sound Builders is committed to making a positive contribution to the community in which we live and is delighted to participate in this wonderful program.
Rampathon provides wheelchair access to those who are financially unable to have a ramp built. In 2002, we built 13 ramps, the largest number since the beginning of the program. This year, we were able to surpass that number and build 20!
Jay, as Rampathon co-chair, coordinated efforts on the committee, inspected potential ramp sites and met with recipients to discuss feasibility and assess need. He coordinated volunteer labor from the MBA and Carpenter Locals 13 and 562. The Unions and the MBA members provided ramp captains, crews and building materials. Other volunteers helped by supplying food and making deliveries of water, coffee, lunches and ramp supplies. Along with donating their time, many Members also donated funds. The combined donations including labor, material and cash was in excess of $100,000.00. The cost to the ramp recipients, $0. Wow!
May 31st was the big day. Most of the ramps were completed on Saturday and many of the recipients were tearful as they were able to get out of their homes for the first time by themselves.
